Last month, I wrote about my experience searching for the perfect mums to put out on my front porch for the fall season. I posted a couple of pictures at the time and promised to post more as they matured.
Well, I forgot that promise until today, when I was admiring how nice they had turned out. So here they are, near the end of their life cycle.
When young they were somewhat bronze in the center of the bud, and lighter yellow further out. As they matured they took on a more uniform deep yellow hue.
Now they are starting to develop a pinkish hue on the ends of their petals. My brother Mike, who is a professional horticulturist, understands the biochemical mechanism by which this occurs. While visiting here last weekend, when I pointed out how they had changed with time, he mentioned something about temperature and carbohydrate metabolism.
It was Greek to me. Went right over my head. But that was okay. I just think it is cool that he knows such things.

Does that mean if you put them on a low carb diet they will change colors?

And I think it's cool that you take such great photos.
