Why are they called Vodka Begonias?

It is just a variety name. I found this on a website:
‘Cocktail’ is a well-known series with bronze foliage. The flower colors are ‘Brandy’ (soft pink flowers), ‘Gin’ (soft rose-pink flowers), ‘Rum’ (white flowers with a rose red band around the edge), ‘Vodka’ (bright scarlet flowers) and ‘Whiskey’ (pure white flowers).

I am a beginner with begonias. A few weeks ago I planted 6 vodka begonias in a redwood planter outdoors. They are thriving beautifully....beginner's luck??
My question is: if I bring the box in when the weather gets cold during the Winter months,(I'm in Upstate NY)will my begonias stay alive or do they have a finite lifespan no matter where they are??
Thanks, Valeacia
