It's been a busy but fun week with Ali here. Last Tuesday, after seeing Harry Potter, we went shopping and bought a dining table, six chairs , and a sideboard. They should be delivered before I leave for France in a couple of weeks.
This weekend, in preparation for the arrival of the furniture, we pulled up the carpet and pad in the dining room. It took us part of two days to finish. The hardest part was removing all the staples that held down the padding and the tack strips from the edges of the floor.
I had no idea what the hardwood underneath all that was going to look like after the years of spills and pet accidents, but we were pleased to find it in beautiful condition. The new furniture is going to look great on that floor.

Why this gorgeous hardwood was ever covered by wall-to-wall carpet in the first place I'll never understand.
I still have the living room, master bedroom, a hallway and a set of stairs to uncover, and new quarter-round molding will need to be installed. But those rooms aren't as urgent as the dining room was.
Just as we cooked together Wednesday night, we worked seamlessly uncovering the dining room floor.
Yes. Alison and I make a great team.

Yep, we do.

That is gorgeous. Hardwood went out of fashion for a while, now it's back in. Make sure to share a photo with the furniture in it.

So jealous! Your floor looks fantastic! I love the different colors of the wood.

Hardwood floors were a no-no for moms in the 50's with active kids. My mother carpeted true "art" parquet floors. Thirty years later they were the major selling point of the house. I never, ever saw them.
Nice to get moving ahead with your life together, innit?

That is a GORGEOUS floor! I hope you find the same throughout your house as you continue your renovations. What a bonus :)
