Last Saturday after we pulled up the carpet in the dining room, Alison and I went shopping. One of our stops was at Lowes to buy some shims to use in removing the tack strips that were nailed to the periphery of the floor.
As we wandered the store we came upon their display of area rugs. We had already seen a rug we liked at another place earlier in the day, but it was really too small for what we needed and was very expensive.
As we made our way down the aisle, we set eyes on this rug. The pattern is called Zydeco. We both knew right then that this was the rug we wanted for the dining room. It will set off the our new dining table perfectly. Yeah, we bought a new table, chairs, and a sideboard last week, too. They will be delivered next weekend. I'll post pictures when the furniture is in place.
We didn't buy the rug that day, because there was no way it was going to fit in my VW Jetta. But this evening my sister Jo Ann and I brought it home in her Jeep. Thanks Jo Ann!
This is a picture I took a couple of weeks ago of the lighting fixture in the dining room. The new rug and the new furniture are going to look awesome bathed in its light.
The last thing we will do is paint. We want to have everything in place before choosing a color for the walls. I can't wait for Ali to get here so we can put that last piece of the puzzle in place. Together.
Very cool rug--the walls do need some color though. How about the gray green color in the rug? I think that would look spiffy. Of course, I am not known for my "eye."

LOVE the rug. It actually reminds me of the one we had in our apartment when we lived in Belgium. I think we got it at Ikea.
By the way, I love the quality of your photos here. What kind of camera do you have?
