You don't need a special occasion to celebrate with champagne. Having a bottle of nice champagne is reason enough to celebrate.
A good friend proposed this idea many years ago.
He and his wife open a bottle (or two) whenever they entertain guests. And he is a minister, so they entertain a lot.
When Alison and I return from France on the 5th of March, we will celebrate with a bottle of champagne.
The first of many we shall open during our life together.

Not that I'm suggesting anything but in Scotland if you have champagne when you get married or celebrate an anniversary you keep the cork and stick a coin in it, a 50p usually I think.
I never liked champagne then I won a really good bottle of it and saved it until I got a new job, it was delicious!

One of the many home decorating/renovation shows recently aired an episode with something cool. The couple had a fireplace with a nice mantle. The mantle was full of corks. There must have been hundreds on there. All the corks were from all the dinners they had together and with friends.
Your post just reminded me of that so I decided to share it :) Seems like something I could see you and Ali doing.
