Mr. Jones's world has been turned upside down with the arrival of Ali's two kids for the summer. And he does not like it one bit.
Mr. Jones is an affectionate cat, but he gives and receives affection on his own terms. He is very wary of strangers, as he was with us when he first came to live with us. So the addition of two rambunctious youngsters to the mix has him on edge.
And he has been acting out in response to the upheaval. He has been defecating just outside of his litterbox since their arrival two days ago. That actually began Wednesday evening when he was in the box and was startled by Ali rushing into the laundry room to put a load of clothes in the wash. And now he is making a habit of it.
I took him to the vet today, because recently, we noticed evidence that he might have worms. Sure enough, he does have a tapeworm, but is otherwise in good health. When we got home from the vet. he ate some of his food, and some cat treats, and we immediately administered the pill that should take care of the parasite.
Hopefully that will be the last we have to worry about that.
As I type this, the kids are out in the yard playing on a Slip & Slide, and Mr. Jones is sleeping peacefully in his favorite chair. This is the first time I have seen him this calm since Ali and the kids got home.
Maybe he is getting comfortable with the changes around here, and his world is beginning to right itself.

Poor Mr. Jones. But I'm sure that he'll adjust-- somehow.

He does look very haughty and annoyed in that photo! Cats like their routine, just like humans. When it's disrupted, it takes them a while to adjust. (me too!)
